Public exposure. More than 900 companies have gone public in the US so far this year, pushing the number of publicly traded firms in the country over 4,000 for the first time in 10+ years. With sky-high valuations (meaning, too big to find a buyer) and at times in need of cash, startups have made their way to the public markets as investors look for a return on their investment. The SPAC frenzy, which has enabled a faster path to going public, has also helped fuel the trend.

10%+. Over 1B people across 25+ countries are suffering from double-digit inflation of their currency. At the minimum listed 10% inflation, their purchasing power will halve in just 8 years. As many countries experience high inflation, people will increasingly look for another store of value — which may drive crypto adoption.

Horn ok please. Scooters and motorcycles, which make up about 75% of vehicles in India, account for nearly 70% of gasoline consumption in the country. Amid surging fuel prices and a push to reduce emissions, a shift to e-scooters is on the horizon. Micromobility startups like Ola and Bounce are jumping in to meet demand.

DeFying gravity. The total value locked in decentralized finance (DeFi) — an ecosystem of smart contracts that allows participants to offer and access financial services in a peer-to-peer format, without relying on traditional intermediaries like banks or brokerages — is close to $120B. Startups focusing on DeFi applications have seen a similar rise, with funding to the space in 2021 YTD already over 6x the amount raised in 2020. 

Financial infidelity. It’s not just founders. 43% of adults with combined finances say they have deceived their partner about a purchase or the state of their finances, according to one survey.
