How Colombia protects its citizens from snakebites

Forward Forward
In this IANPHI Insider we visit Colombia's Instituto Nacional de Salud (INS) to see how it is protecting Colombians from venomous snakes. Poisonous snakes are a major health risk in Colombia and around the world. Less than half the anti-venom needed is currently produced worldwide, and up to 138,000 individuals are believed to die every year globally from venomous snake bites. Colombia's INS produces enough high-quality anti-venom to protect all of its citizens.

In other public health news, Burkina Faso published its first population health status report; IANPHI hosted a webinar on the role of behavioral science to fight the COVID-19 pandemic; and the IANPHI Annual Meeting
will be held virtually this year.

We would like to remind you that COVID-19 resources, which include members’ rapid reviews and our webinar series, are available on the IANPHI website.

As always, we would be happy to hear from you and share your stories with the IANPHI network. Contact us at info@ianphi.org

Along with its work to stop emerging and infectious diseases, Colombia’s Instituto Nacional de Salud (INS) produces enough anti-venom to protect the entire country. IANPHI toured the INS's anti-venom facility to look into their anti-venom production process.
