2016 Resident Satisfaction Survey

The Mayor’s Office of Innovation Delivery and Performance has opened the City of Atlanta’s annual Resident Satisfaction Survey. Residents are encouraged to participate in the brief survey to provide valuable feedback to help improve city services. Responses to the survey are completely confidential. Please know that I and other council members find the results helpful in our budget deliberations starting in May and inform our investment decisions in areas such as transportation infrastructure, public safety, youth development, economic development and government efficiency.

Atlanta Dogwood Festival

The 80th Annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival is this weekend, April 8 -10 in Piedmont Park. Nearly 100,000 visitors are expected to attend. Set up for the festival may impact both 10th Street (vehicular and bike lanes) and Charles Allen Drive this week. 

Additionally, there will be rolling lane closures the morning of Saturday, April 9th at 8am to accommodate runners in the Atlanta Dogwood Festival Mimosa 5K.

Unrelated to the festival, there will be a full street closure on 8th Street, NW between William Street & Spring Street for staging a crane to assemble a Tower Crane for construction of a new building. The full street closure begins on Friday April 8, 2016, at 12:00 a.m. through Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 11:00 p.m. Traffic Detour signs will be posted to direct traffic.

Residents are urged to plan their travel accordingly and pursue alternative forms of transportation.  

Citywide Scrap Tire Drive in April

In recognition of Earth Day on Friday, April 22, 2016, the City of Atlanta Department of Public Works is conducting a Citywide Scrap Tire Drive in April. Residents of District 6 may bring scrap tires from neighborhood clean-up events to the Center for Hard to Recycle Material (CHaRM) free of charge in April. Please identify yourself as a District 6 resident when dropping off tires.

CHaRM is located at 1110 Hill St SE Atlanta, GA 30315 and is open:

• Tuesdays 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
• Thursdays 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
• Saturdays 8:00 a.m - 4:00 p.m.

Morningside / Lenox Park Traffic Forum Held

On Tuesday, March 29, 2016 the Morningside / Lenox Park Association (MLPA) held its very first traffic forum. Over 100 attendees gathered at Morningside Presbyterian Church to voice their traffic concerns in the neighborhood, which included such broad categories as speeding, dangerous intersections, infrastructure improvements and congestion.





As a result of the meeting, Traffic Chair, Kirk Rich, has compiled a master list of neighborhood traffic issues, which is being prioritized. Additional traffic suggestions or concerns should be directed to MLPA.

Stay tuned for updates from the neighborhood association as it communicates its progress against this master list. Thanks to all those who participated. 

Municipal Court of Atlanta Announces Warrant Amnesty

The City of Atlanta Municipal Court announced today the launch of the warrant amnesty program. This program offers amnesty to individuals facing arrest and other penalties due to delinquent traffic tickets, city ordinance or misdemeanor violations, and waives contempt fees for failure-to-appear. The program begins on April 1, 2016, and ends on May 13, 2016.









"Our goal is to ensure that we have licensed and lawful drivers on city streets. We want to work with the public to reach these goals in innovative and amenable ways,” said Ryan Shepard, Municipal Court Administrator. “This program creates an opportunity for people to voluntarily resolve outstanding cases in a fair and efficient manner.”

The program is available to individuals with citations issued before January 1, 2015. Court sessions will be held weekdays at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Court will offer signups for these sessions starting at 7 a.m. each day for same day service.

The court will also hold three special sessions during non-traditional hours:

• Wednesday, April 6 at 6:00 p.m.
• Saturday, April 16 at 10:00 a.m.
• Wednesday, April 20 at 6:00 p.m.

Signup for the special session on Saturday, April 16, begins at 8:00 a.m. Individuals who wish to clear penalties and warrants under this program are encouraged to arrive early. When the amnesty period ends remaining outstanding warrants will be rigorously enforced.

Druid Hills Tour of Homes & Gardens

The annual Druid Hills Tour of Homes & Gardens will be Friday, April 22 – Sunday, April 24. One of the longest running tours of homes in Atlanta, the tour celebrates its 48th year with six homes and one garden. Tickets can still be purchased at any of the homes featured on the tour. Tickets are valid all weekend. Olmsted Plein Air Invitational:  April 25th – May 1st

Spring time in Atlanta is glorious and the 2016 Olmsted Plein Air Invitational will feature a 6-day rain or shine event featuring thirty six of the world’s greatest collectible artists producing beautiful landscape paintings for public purchase.

Plein air painting, or painting in the open air, is a familiar concept today but was revolutionary when the Impressionists ventured out of their studios to capture the effects of sunlight in the late 1800s. 

The 2016 Olmsted Plein Air Invitational will include expanded areas for the Artists to paint. This year the Olmsted Plein Air Invitational will include lakes, parks and cityscapes and landscapes. The competing artists, selected by a preeminent selection jury, will paint at several Atlanta landmarks including the Atlanta History Center architecture and grounds, The Shops Buckhead Atlanta, the Atlanta Botanical Garden hosting an exhibition of Dale Chihuly’s glasswork, Piedmont Park, and culminating in Atlanta’s historic Olmsted Linear Park in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta. Painters will compete for cash prizes plus the prestige of winning The Olmsted trophy. The resulting original works of art will be on display and available for purchase (pre-public sale) on Saturday evening April 30 and to the public all day, Sunday, May 1.
