Build Mobile, Wireless, Ad Hoc Networking Systems
Utilizing the Cisco 5940 Embedded Services Router (ESR) and X-ES board- and system-level components, ruggedized mobile, wireless networking infrastructure systems can be built. The Cisco 5940 ESR coupled with IP-enabled radios can be used to form a mobile, wireless network as well as provide client access points. A network created using these systems is capable of delivering voice, data, and video where network infrastructure does not exist, such as on the battlefield or after a natural disaster.
The Cisco 5940 ESR is complemented by Cisco IOS Software and Cisco Mobile Ready Net capabilities. With this technology, the router provides highly secure data, voice, and video communications to stationary and mobile network nodes across wired and wireless links. Cisco Mobile Ready Net includes support for mobile ad hoc networking and radio-aware routing.
The Cisco 5940 ESR is a ruggedized 3U CompactPCI board which can be integrated into small (i.e., two slot), wireless network infrastructure systems to be deployed in a vehicle and connected to one or multiple radios. It can also be integrated into larger systems providing other capabilities, such as mission control computers. In addition, Ethernet switches can be integrated into the systems to provide 1 Gb Ethernet connectivity throughout the vehicle.
For small deployed systems  development, X-ES provides the CDP-5940 with the Cisco 5940 ESR, XPedite7332 SBC, and XPort6103 256 GB SSD XMC module integrated into the XPand1030 two-slot 3U conduction-cooled CompactPCI development platform.
