Winter 2016-17

Dear <<First name*>>–

Greetings from England! I'm hoping 2017 is off to a great start for you.

Ruth and I had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's in Iceland and my home state of Colorado. Earlier in December, we took a weekend trip to London, for ice skating and a stellar performance of one of my favourite violinists, Hilary Hahn, with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

It was a welcome break following a very productive 4th Quarter, with many client projects being completed and new ones starting up. (Along with photography and art, I've been doing more graphic design and web development, with several major client projects coming online during December and January.)

Now I'm looking forward to again refocusing on photography, my enduring passion. We moved house last year and I've since been enjoying working in our new studio, complete with a large-format printer—the Epson 9890—producing lots of new abstract fine art and travel/scenic prints. (I'm also printing for other photographers and artists.) I have several solo exhibitions in production this year, along with a select few art festivals we're planning around England over the spring and summer.

I'm also ramping up my photography teaching, speaking and presenting, with a new schedule of classes and workshops plus a new video training series in the works. During mid-2016, I launched a new web site for photographers looking for personalized travel photo experiences; you can see that here.

With everything happening, I do still have some limited availability for fine art commissions. Get in touch if you'd like to discuss a bespoke work for your home or business; we can work with most any budget.

All my best,

And now, the news ...

Speaking at The Photography Show

The Photography Show is 18-21 March at NEC Birmingham.

I'll be teaching Lightroom in the Adobe Theatre all four days of the show, presenting the following programmes:

Making your Photos look amazing with Lightroom CC
In this session you’ll discover ways of correcting common photo issues and ways to enhance your photographs to give them the wow factor.

Mastering the basics of Lightroom CC
This session is perfect for the person this is just starting out with Lightroom, but has had a few months experience. The speaker will cover how to use Lightroom, with a focus on the next steps after just starting out with the program and go more in depth with the Development module, but also cover things to think about when importing, organising and finding your images.

Starting out with Lightroom CC
New people are joining the Creative Cloud Photography plan all of the time. But sometimes, things take a little while to make sense, especially when moving from another photo editing application. This session will guide you through the very basics and get you started, as well as walking you through editing your first picture with Lightroom.

Stop by and say hi if you can!

Introducing
Subjective Arts

I've launched a new web site showcasing my abstract photography and fine art. You can browse extensive collections of abstract imagery and order online.

This was previously the site content at NatCoalson.com. That site now serves as the hub to access all my web sites, each with services and content tailored for different audiences. My travel and nature imagery is at PictorialJourneys.com

Recent commissions

A private collector in Oliver, British Columbia has purchased a 30x45 inch print of my image of Mesa Arch, Utah.

A private art collector in Minnesota, USA commissioned a bespoke variation on my abstract photograph titled 'Waiting for Dawn". This has been one of my most popular images. Several collectors have ordered original mixed media works and reproductions of it, making subtle adjustments to customize it for their home.

The commission called for a custom crop printed to the size of 22x36 inches. The collector also requested that I tweak some of the colors here and there, adding more saturation and hues to match their interior decor scheme.

The custom image was printed as a straight chromogenic print on luster photo paper and matted and framed for hanging.

Last autumn I delivered and installed a custom abstract artwork commissioned by a private collector in Northampton, England. This original was based on my abstract photograph "Fountain of Truth". After printing the image on canvas, I embellished the picture by hand using many layers of transparent acrylic. The collectors were very pleased with the results!

You can order your own custom fine art from my extensive catalog of imagery at NatCoalson.com

Photography talk at Phoenix Cinema

In January I gave a talk on digital photography at the Phoenix Leicester. We had a great turnout and the evening was lots of fun. I'll definitely be doing more events at the Phoenix!

Below is an example of the supportive feedback we received:

“Thank you very much for organising the workshop with Nat Coalson. I found his presentation rich and stimulating and he talked with great clarity. I have a longstanding interest in photography and, having just finished a major project, have the time to develop my interest. The timing of Nat’s workshop was perfect for me.”

You can read more about the event here

Get in touch if you'd like to have me speak to your group.

Fine inkjet papers in the UK

I recently discovered Paper Spectrum, one of the best resources I've found anywhere for fine art printing supplies.

A professional supplier of photographic, fine art and giclee papers for use with inkjet and laser printers, they also specialise in blank greetings cards, mountboard, foamboard and associated products.

The product selection is truly exceptional and their pricing very reasonable... some of the reasons I'm now sourcing all my fine art printing supplies from Paper Spectrum.

New Collection: Wine Country
