SIMAP releases significant updates to scope 3
|
|
Our annual functionality update this year packs in a lot! You will now be able to get a more complete picture of your organization's total scope 3 emissions through SIMAP.
Complete scope 3 calculations: SIMAP can now calculate all 15 scope 3 categories. Don't worry - the categories you are familiar with are still there! Check out the scope 3 mapping page to see the full list of options.
Enter purchasing data for ANY scope 3 category! You can now enter purchasing data (in US dollars) across 400+ purchasing categories (e.g., construction, purchased goods, services) and assign it to any of the 15 GHG Protocol scope 3 categories. This new option is a great way to estimate the order of magnitude of your complete scope 3 emissions.
Fuel- and Energy-Related Activities (FERA) emissions: SIMAP automatically calculates the upstream scope 3 emissions from your on-site stationary sources with our new FERA emission factors. We have US default factors built into SIMAP, and you can see the pages on natural gas, fuel oil, coal, solar, and wind for details on further refinement and customization. Note: This is a new category that is automatically calculated from your existing data entry and will add to your net footprint.
New food emissions factors: To better align with the Cool Food Pledge and the latest science, we updated the food carbon footprint calculations to emissions factors from Poore & Nemecek 2018. These emission factors have a broader system bounds by including food waste, so expect your food emissions to increase by 20-30%.
Calculated eCO2 factors: You can now view your custom calculated eCO2 factors (combined CO2 + CH4 + N2O) for all sources on the Data Entry tab > Emission factors page.
2022 SIMAP version of emission factors: The annual update includes the latest data across all sources. Key updates include 2020 market-based emission factors for purchased electricity, increased 2020 and 2021 CO2 air travel emission factors due to low ridership, and all CH4 air travel emission factors set to 0 based on the latest studies. New and improved graphs: We now have two category graphs: Categories (higher ed), which uses the same categories as the previous version, and Categories (GHG Protocol). We also updated the color scheme and the legend to only include relevant categories.

The 2023 Climate Leadership Commitment Reporting Period is Open
|
|
We would like to provide the following options for you to report your GHG data to the new public reporting module in order to fulfill the annual public reporting requirement for your Carbon/Climate Commitment.
1) You may schedule a guided tour with Second Nature's Steve Muzzy via Calendly or Shaina Maciejewski via Calendly walk through the process of submitting your data publicly.
2) You may email Second Nature's Steve Muzzy or Shaina Maciejewski and let them know that they can submit the data for you publicly. They will share the link to your public institutional profile once completed.

3) You can report the data yourself - check out this Public Reporting Guidance page, recorded webinar tutorial, and webinar slide set to see how easy it is to publish and/or update your SIMAP Footprint Module results to the Public Reporting Module—and begin to do so at any time!
